Most businesses are chasing the wrong number.

Mitch Slater said something on my most recent Always On podcast that's stuck with me since we recorded: "We are in an ROR, not an ROI business. It's a return on the relationship."

So much of how we're taught to measure success comes down to a spreadsheet: inputs, outputs, margins. But the businesses that actually last are built on something a lot harder to quantify, things like trust, consistency, and showing up for people over years, not quarters.

That reframe alone was worth the conversation. We got into a lot more, including how Mitch thinks about building relationships that compound over time, and why that's the real long game.
