Financial Advisor Success Podcast

FINANCIAL ADVISOR SUCCESS PODCAST

Best For:  Advisors actively building their firm

Michael Kitces is "the godfather when it comes to creating content for financial advisors" to help them build their businesses, says financial coach and investing consultant Brad Johnson, who also hosts "The Elite Advisor Podcast." Kitces knows the financial industry through and through.

You can think of the "Financial Advisor Success" podcast as "the fireside chat audio version of (Kitces's) blog, Kitces.com," Johnson says. It focuses on distilling both the benefits and challenges of building advisory firms, as told by their founders. Recent episodes include topics such as creating value for next-generation clients, getting paid to market your own expertise and helping families with multigenerational wealth.

Look for new episodes every Tuesday.

Frequency/Length:  Tuesdays/60-90 minutes

Format: Michael Kitces interviews guest(s)

Suggested episodes:

463: Generating 10-15 Referrals per week (with client introductions) with David Stevens

This episode's core message gave me a smile as it absolutely dovetails with Pareto's longstanding approach to differentiating "asking for referrals" from having an introduction process. It's through a slightly different lens, which is a useful way to revisit and polish ideas you may have already been in the know on.

KITCES AND CARL - REAL TALK FOR FINANCIAL ADVISORS PODCAST

Michael Kitces and client communication expert Carl Richards team up to host this podcast, which tackles some of the tough questions advisors face every day. Listen to the podcast.

Frequency/Length:  Biweekly/25-30 minutes

Format: Michael Kitces and Carl Richards operate as a team to discuss the subject of the pod

Suggested episodes:

168: Do You Really Have To Go Deep With Every New Client In The First Meeting?

Kitces and Richards bring on client communication expert Carl Richards to talk about "the pros and cons of holding financial psychology conversations early in the client relationship" - which is a question anyone will probably empathize with, and hearing an in-depth conversation on how to build trust and when to move into the tough questions was really useful. It's a great reminder that communication and relationship always trump raw data.

461: How Storytelling Builds Unbreakable Client Relationships With John Bucher

This episode features John Butcher - an actual story consultant - and Matt discussing the power of stories - and how story is a must-have element in your branding and marketing. It introduces the often unmentioned concept of "story-listening," not just story-telling, and their dive into how story can build relationships, trust, referrals and so much else is both thought-provoking and a reminder that we're all talking to people - and people will always love a story more than a summary.

Standard Deviations Podcast

STANDARD DEVIATIONS PODCAST

Behavioral finance can be a complex topic and the Standard Deviations podcast helps break it down in an easy-to-understand way. The pod is hosted by Dr. Daniel Crosby, a psychologist and behavioral finance expert who "helps organizations understand the intersection of mind and markets" who is also a serial author in the field.

You might consider tuning into this financial advisor podcast if you're interested in gaining a better understanding of what motivates your clients' money decisions.

Listen to the podcast.

Listen to the podcast.

Frequency/Length:  Daily/8-10 minutes

Format: Garcia and Smith present directly on a topic/event

Suggested episodes:

November 6: This indicator hasn't flashed this red since the dot-com bubble

This episode looks at potentially scary current Shiller PE Ratios - the price-to-earnings ratio - and the concept of "irrational exuberance" - as well as how this indicator is simply that - and not a Magic 8-ball foretelling doom. In the chaotic market of today, it was refreshing to hear someone applying some context and nuance to the race to AI and the investment around it. I think this is a great example episode for new listeners to the Indicator, as it gives a glimpse of the podcast's major strength - supplying a simple, balanced summary of issues in the news.

Animal Spirits Podcast

ANIMAL SPIRITS PODCAST

Best for: Advisors studying the interplay of psychology and investor decisions

Presented by Michael Batnick and Ben Carlson, this podcast argues - among other things - that by understanding the psychological factors of behavioral finance, you can better guide your clients towards achieving their financial goals. They cover a swath of content, from financial markets and personal finance, to their favorite books and media, and more. Their stated goal is "to make finance more accessible, speak in plain English, and share our own personal experiences in the markets." Their delivery is crisp, fun and informal, with little jargon and a refreshing amount of common sense.

Listen to the podcast.

Frequency/Length:  4-5 times a week/30-60 minutes

Format: Batnick and Carlson present directly on a topic or interview another expert guest

Suggested episodes:

414: Most Stocks Suck

A refreshingly candid overview of actual stock quality, how government will always spend more than it says it will and how all this shows why financial professionals exist. Enjoyable for its "warts-on" but still optimistic view of where we are and where we're going.

Hosted by Alan Moore, this XYPN Radio podcast focuses on "what it takes to launch, run, and grow a successful fee-only financial planning firm" Moore interviews a wide selection of professional guests, teasing out the lessons they've learned and taught; lessons that can be applied to any financial planning business, but especially to Gen X and Millennial clients. These are often real-world "where are they now" stories packed with value for the listener.

Listen to the podcast.

Frequency/Length:  Monthly to Biweekly/35-60 minutes

Format: Roth interviews expert guest(s)

Suggested episodes:

103: From Zero to 38 Clients in 12 Months
